# Quickstart

> Create an account and an API key, then make your first call.

There's no dashboard yet, so these steps use `curl`. Creating a key requires a login session, which `curl` keeps in a cookie file.

**1. Sign up**

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST https://api.vocalistic.ai/v1/auth/signup \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"email": "you@example.com", "password": "at-least-12-characters", "name": "Ada", "organization_name": "Acme"}'
```

We email you a verification link. Copy the value after `token=` in that link.

**2. Verify your email**

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST https://api.vocalistic.ai/v1/auth/verify-email \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"token": "TOKEN_FROM_THE_EMAIL"}'
```

**3. Log in**

```bash theme={null}
curl -c cookies.txt -X POST https://api.vocalistic.ai/v1/auth/login \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"email": "you@example.com", "password": "at-least-12-characters"}'
```

**4. Create an API key**

```bash theme={null}
curl -b cookies.txt -X POST https://api.vocalistic.ai/v1/api-keys \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"name": "My first key", "scopes": ["organization:read", "members:read"]}'
```

The response includes the key once, in the `key` field. Store it somewhere safe, because we can't show it again.

**5. Make your first call**

```bash theme={null}
curl https://api.vocalistic.ai/v1/whoami \
  -H 'Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY'
```

The response shows your organization and what the key can do.
